Seems if you had purchased this app with your iPhone gift card… this developer figured out a way to drain your balance with in-app purchases. http://thenextweb.com/apple/2011/03/01/apple-itunes-accounts-hacked-as-more-r…? Apple's new subscription model-- the 30% solution
Apple’s new paid content model has been announced.  Steve:  “Our philosophy is simple — when Apple brings a new subscriber to the app, Apple earns a 30 percent share; when the publisher brings an existing or new subscriber to the app, the publisher keeps 100 percent and Apple earns nothing,” said Jobs. “All we require is that, if a publisher is making a subscription offer...

What *could* Apple do for the next generation of...
There are lots of rumours circling right now about a mini iPhone, a bigger screened iPhone, iPads with retina displays and small iPads. It is, of course, quite possible that there will be no new iPhone/iPad mini, or iPhone Maxi or whatever. However, knowing Apple, if they do release a new class of iPhone or iPad, they will do so to make it as easy for the developer as possible to maintain...

Apple's Secret Weapon is Energizing | Tech...
In a previous blog post from last year - Why you should care about the iPhone SDK, I talk about Xcode - Apple’s secret weapon. You can read the previous article, typed up when iPhone 2.0 was released in 2008, to find out why I think the iPhone SDK is defining the future of Apple and the Mac platform. Today’s post is about tracking how that secret weapon is starting to energize. ...

Tomi Ahonen just wrote thousands of words about why Nokia has the best smartphone strategy in the market. It’s a very compelling read and I found myself almost ready to give up my iPhone and new Android-based Google Nexus S Samsung smartphone and move to northern Europe. Not. Definitely the prevailing view in high-tech communities I talk with around the world is that Nokia is doomed....

Galaxy Tab: A tale of two reviews
The Galaxy tab is getting mixed reactions in the blogosphere.  Until I actually get a chance to play with one, it’s hard to tell if it is actually good or bad— my suspicion is, like a lot of Android devices it is usuable, but a little rough around the edges… My suspicion is that the reported flash performance has a ring of truth to it. Engadget: “For the most part, the...

My earlier analysis— they saw this from daily sales figures, and this is the reason why they had the quickly scheduled press conference on ‘antennagate’. http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2010/09/08/antennagate-cost-apple-20-of-sales/ … Of course, at the end of this article, they state they’re still selling whatever they can make, so I guess we’re referring to...

iOS device + Apple TV = Game Console?
I had a thought, stop me if you have heard this before, though I haven’t seen anyone mention it. We know that iOS devices will support streaming of video to the new Apple TV. I would assume that it would be a no brainer to stream whatever the the screen is on your iOS device to Apple TV. If was the case, then wouldn’t the combination of an iOS device and an Apple TV be the...

The iPad Tour: Uploading Photos at 196mph!
I am currently writing this on the TGV high speed rail (at 196 mph!) in France, heading to Nice, after spending 3 weeks in the UK, and France, flying back home tomorrow (and with any luck, at bospdaug next Tuesday) One of my goals for this trip was to shoot photos with my digital camera, and store, edit and upload photos using my only computer, the iPad. Death of a MacBook Pro, rise of the iPad
Now, this should be interesting. My two and a half year old, 17” MaBook Pro just died, well, it sort of died. I went to bed, put the laptop to sleep and in the morning, the MacBooks screen wouldn’t come on. Not good. I thought that if the screen wasn’t on, it might still be running, so I tried to connect to it from my iPad using LogMeIn Ignition. No dice. What to do? I...

The iPad Tour: O2+MS Mobile-AT&T=$$$
The iPad Tour is well underway.  I have been in the UK since early Saturday AM, and have now scoped out (with some help from bospdaug’s Seamus, and the friend we’re staying with here) the correct way to roam with iPad data while in Europe. Originally, before leaving Boston, I had bought a small amount of wireless data from AT&T at an exorbitant price for both my iPad and iPhone,...

AT&T and Apple, Wired gets the inside dirt
Sounds like we’re one simarly sized CDMA to GPS chipset away from the end of iPhone exclusivity with AT&T.  Note a very key line in this article for all you AT&T haters out there: “it wasn’t clear that Verizon would be an improvement; at the time, it wasn’t any better equipped than AT&T to deal with the iPhone’s bandwidth demands.” I bet if Verizon had the level of...

So, are you happy now?
It seems to me that even though Steve, and Apple loves all of us (their customers) I suspect this undying love and admiration does not extend to the those in the technology press.  The tone of today’s hastily covered press conference— the message between the lines, was very much one of: “The antenna problem is largely fueled by press hysteria, and you should all just cut it...

Has the iPhone jumped the shark?
This is difficult for me to admit, but I have 6 months left on my iPhone 3GS contract and I’m ditching my iPhone. It’s not that I am upgrading to a new plan or an iPhone 4, no, I am ditching my iPhone completely and have already bought an unlocked Sony Ericsson T700 to replace it and to use up the remaining 6 months on my contract. This could be viewed as extreme. If you know me, you...
